Electronics Recycling and Disposal

The City of Allen allows residents to choose between recycling unwanted televisions, computers and small electronics or sending them to a landfill.

Drop Off at Annual Recycling Events

Allen residents may recycle computers, televisions and other electronics at two annual events. The Great American Cleanup is held in late April or early May. Allen Recycles Day is held in early November.

These events are promoted through a variety of City communication channels including AllenNews.org. Visit the Stay Connected page for all the email subscription options for news and events or follow Keep Allen Beautiful on Twitter. Details and event flyers are also added to the Keep Allen Beautiful Annual Community Events page several weeks prior to each event.

Use Bulky Trash Collection to Send to Landfill

Televisions, computers and electronics may be included in bulky items collection. These items are taken to a landfill. Call Community Waste Disposal at 972.392.9300 (option 2) to schedule a television (bulky item) collection. Para asistencia en español, llame a 972.392.9300, opción 8.

Drop Off at the Transfer Station

Residents may take unwanted televisions, computers and electronics to the Custer Road Transfer Station at 9901 Custer Road. The Transfer Station is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residents must take a current Allen water utility bill and driver's license (addresses must match) to drop off televisions free of charge.

Other Options for Recycling Electronics

By state law, computer manufacturers who sell products in Texas are required to accept and recycle their equipment at no cost to consumers. Though the law does not apply to cell phones and other hand-held devices, many manufacturers have chosen to accept them for recycling nonetheless. Some manufacturers offer discounts on new products when you recycle your old device.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) makes it easy for consumers to recycle old computers or televisions. Visit TexasRecyclesTVs.org or TexasRecyclesComputers.org for more information. A number of Allen retailers also provide electronics recycling.

For more information about donating or recycling an old computer or other electronics, visit the EPA website.
